Mill Pond

The Mill Pond neighbourhood is one of the oldest in Richmond Hill as it is in the area known as Old Richmond Hill. The area is bordered by Yonge Street on the East, Bathurst Street on the West, Major Mackenzie on the South and Elgin Mills Road West on the North. The area is known for young families just settling down and for established families in the larger homes as well as some retirees who pick the bungalows, and people who are downsizing moving into the townhouses. The neighbourhood is part of the old Village of Richmond Hill before it became a town and on Yonge Street you will find a more downtown Toronto type feel with older commercial and retail buildings lining the streets and with only four total lanes of traffic with no dedicated left hand turning lanes and when during the day there is parking on Yonge Street which means the driving will be with just a single lane both ways. There are many amenities in the area including Don Head Park and Mill Pond Park. The main branch of the Richmond Hill Public Library system resides just on the South side of Major Mackenzie Drive. The area boasts Richmond Hill's only hospital in York Central Hospital which is located in between Yonge and Bathurst Street on Major Mackenzie Drive. There are many places to go shopping including Hillcrest Mall, or to the plaza at Yonge Street and Bernard Avenue just North of Elgin Mills Road. There is also access to public transit either on all the major streets via York Region Transit and just to the East of Yonge Street on Major Mackenzie Drive is the local Go Train station to take you downtown. Highway 404 is to the East of the area and Highway 400 is the West of the area using one of the major streets.
